The Barale Fratelli 2020 Barbaresco Serraboella has a beautiful bouquet with bright cherry, raspberry, kirsch and redcurrant. It offers lovely fruit intensity that is primarily red and fresh in character. There is a second wave of aromas with sweet almond, rose and spice. The ensemble is bright and punchy, and this Barbaresco does hit all the high marks. Production is 5,780 bottles.

The 2019 Barbaresco Serraboella (with exactly 3,531 bottles made) is a dark and almost savory wine with spice, iron and some stemmy notes as well. This vintage is known for concentration, and indeed, that extra density transcends the bouquet and the mouthfeel with more black fruits, tannic firmness and a harder edge. There is brief thinness on the mid-palate, and the wine concludes with a hint of coarse tannins. It's built like a rock, so give it time to soften.

With some 4,000 bottles released, the Barale Fratelli 2018 Barbaresco Serraboella opens to a very light, almost fragile appearance. Beautifully delicate, with notes of blue flowers, wild berries and red brick, the Serrboella spent three years in oak and has emerged very silky and glossy to the palate. Try a chicken stir fry and mushrooms with this light-on-its-feet Nebbiolo.

The 2016 Barbaresco Serraboella (with 3,600 bottles produced) is an open, immediate and easy-drinking Nebbiolo with bright cherry fruit that emerges gracefully from the bouquet. The wine is delicate and fine with a glossy and polished texture on the close. The wine's intensity is subdued and understated. Best to open it now to pair with a hearty risotto with wild porcini mushrooms.

Like other Nebbiolo-based wines from this vintage, the 2015 Barbaresco Serraboella shows slightly less color intensity. This delicate Piedmont grape tends to exhibit pale garnet and ruby colors in the warm vintage such as 2015. The bouquet delivers ripe fruit aromas with dried cherry and blackberry followed by grilled spice and smoke. This vintage is easy, approachable and shows less overall complexity. Some 3,800 bottles were produced.
