A gorgeous offering, the 2007 Syrah Colson Canyon is still primary, but it should develop more nuances with time. A powerful Syrah, it exhibits beautifully integrated tannin, sweet blue and black fruits, plenty of floral notes, and hints of graphite as well as camphor. This serious wine needs another year or so of bottle age, and should keep for a decade. The 2006 Syrah Colson Canyon, a top-notch site made famous by Joey Tensley, exhibits beautiful aromas of flowers, blackberries, licorice, and camphor. It is a rich, seriously-concentrated Syrah with plenty of blueberry and blackberry fruit, good underlying minerality, superb structure, and silky, unobtrusive tannins. Drink this beauty over the next 7-8 years. Both the 2006 Colson Canyon and 2006 Three Creek Vineyard tip the scales at around 15% alcohol. The Crozes-Hermitage-like 2005 Syrah Colson Canyon reveals notes of tobacco, roasted herbs, new saddle leather, cherries, black currants, and toasty new oak.
