The 1997 Marisa (a vineyard blend of Marechal Foch, Chambourcin, and Cabernet Franc) is a fruit-forward offering. Ruby-colored, it displays sweet black raspberry aromas and a well-ripened, dark fruit-filled core. Earth, grapes, and plums can be found in this well-fashioned, fruity wine. Unfortunately, this offering is only available in Maryland. It is the best blend of the two hybrid grapes, Chancellor and Foch, that I have ever tasted. There is none of the foxy character to be found in this full-bodied, fleshy, chunky wine that possesses a big, spicy, curranty nose and rich, chewy, uncomplex but gutsy flavors. It will make for quite a mouthful of wine if drunk over the next 2-3 years.
