The new releases include one white wine, the 2009 Riesling Brooks Estate Vineyard. Not your typical Riesling, it was barrel-fermented in neutral oak, fermented completely dry, and aged sur lie with batonnage for 10 months before bottling without fining or filtration. Aromas of stony minerals, petrol, citrus, and spring flowers inform the nose of an intense, round, smooth-textured Riesling with a firm acid structure and exceptional length. It is likely to evolve for 2-3 years and could drink well for a decade. Big Table Farm combines the efforts of winemaker Brian Marcy and artist Claire Carver. They bought property outside Gaston very near Elk Cove Winery in 2006 but, to this point, the wines have been made from purchased fruit. Ms. Carver is a label designer so each new wine from Big Table Farm has its own unique label.Tel. (503) 662-3129; www.bigtablefarm.com
