The 2006 CABERNET SAUVIGNON RESERVE “MEVUSHAL” is thin and lacks mid-palate concentration. The fruit is tasty enough, although with a simple, slightly bubblegummy nuance. It has decent structure, enough tannin to have a backbone and make it seem like real wine. It actually shows a little character in flavors with a little air, but it simply lacks the depth and finish to be interesting. It is not a bad choice for early to mid-term consumption if you need Mevushal wines, but it is pricey for what it is. Drink now-2013. “The Cave” is Binyamina’s effort at a cult-y type wine, coming in a massively heavy bottle that makes it hard to find “Binyamina” on the label. It refers to a cave quarried in Mount Carmel some 250 years ago and used to store wine intermittently since the 19th Century.Importer: Royal Wine Corp., Bayonne, N.J.; tel: (718) 534-0118.
