Of the three Guelbenzu submissions, the 2009 Vierlas was my favorite. A blend of 40% Syrah with the balance Tempranillo, Merlot, and Garnacha, it was aged for several months in new French oak. Aromas of smoked meat, game, and blueberry inform the nose of this pleasure-bent, forward, tasty effort. It is also an excellent value meant for drinking over the next 2-3 years.
