I loved the heady perfume of the 2018 Garnacha, which Marcos Eguren calls "very Atlantic," mostly from very old vines and high altitude, where the grapes ripen late. It's floral, with notes of grape pulp and all things red (watermelon, pomegranate), really showy and with very integrated oak (it matured in 225- and 500-liter oak barrels for 14 months). It's juicy, round and with chewy, fine tannins, very tasty and with a long, dry finish. 20,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2020.

This round red offers savory notes of espresso, anise and loamy earth, framing a core of plum and currant fruit. Moderate tannins and bright acidity keeps it focused. Drink now through 2025. 900 cases made, 300 cases imported.??–TM??Region: Spain / Rioja Select to Add

The varietal 2016 Garnacha fermented in stainless steel and underwent malolactic in barriques (15% new), where the wine matured for 14 months. It's spicy and aromatic, quite floral and perfumed. This is from a plot planted in 1927 on alluvial soils, a plot that keeps very good freshness. The wine is very clean too, medium-bodied, with some grainy tannins, very apt for food. It's serious and Atlantic, dry and without any sweetness, serious and fresh. This is a great vintage of finesse, really spectacular and improving in the glass. It should develop nicely in bottle. 20,000 bottled in April 2019.

2015 was a warmer vintage, where the grapes ripened quite quickly, with 35 milliliters of rain in late August that marked the year. The 2015 Garnacha is still very young (it was bottled one-and-a-half months ago), and the oak is quite evident. This will need some more time in bottle. The palate is medium-bodied with very good freshness. It was bottled in April 2017 after 14 months in barrel. 20,000 bottles produced.

This dense red delivers ripe plum and blackberry flavors balanced by savory notes of anise, espresso and mineral. Firm tannins and smoky acidity give this structure. A bit austere now, but has depth.
