Aromas of dried red plums, rose petals and rosemary, followed by balsamic and toasted-oak undertones, but not too much. Medium-bodied with dense and sturdy tannins. Still tight. Needs some time to round up. Try after 2027.

The Bonacchi 2015 Brunello di Montalcino (with 40,000 bottles produced) is a light and mildly fragrant Sangiovese that reveals layers of cherry, forest fruit and crushed flowers. This wine delivers bright primary intensity with some mild spice and bitter almond at the back. This is an easy and stripped-down Brunello to pair with a hamburger or roast beef sandwich.

The 2014 Brunello di Montalcino Bonacchi offers an evolved personality with aromas of dried fruit, licorice and smoke that peel off the bouquet. This vintage offers reduced intensity and overall complexity. Because of that (and because of the wine's lean consistency), this Brunello is best consumed within the next 5-8 years. It is accessible and near term. Some 40,000 to 60,000 bottles are produced each harvest.

The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Bonacchi offers a veil of earthiness and spiciness that emerges with good intensity on first nose. The primary fruit comes off as dark and dry. This Brunello opens to a dark garnet color with dark amber highlights at the rim. There is a note of sweetness on the close, but the wine also tastes slightly more advanced than it should upon its release. This is a better near-term drinking choice.

The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Bonacchi is a tight and streamlined wine with light dustings of wild berry, crushed stone, smoke and licorice. The bouquet offers some evolved notes as well that point to its slow oxidation during the three-year oak aging process. In the mouth, this Brunello is tight, firm and moderate in length.
