This is showing aromas of figs, mushrooms, roasted herbs and salted plums. It’s full-bodied, soft and juicy, with mellow earthy flavors and a lightly salty and tasty finish. Delicious now.

The Sardus Pater 2015 Carignano del Sulcis Superiore Arruga is one of very few wines from Sardinia that did not fully live up to my enthusiastic expectations of the vintage. This pure expression of Carignano from pre-pylloxera vines feels a bit weighed down and flattened by the heat and the sunshine of the vintage with jammy notes of blackberry marmalade, raisin and prune. This is a robust, mid-weight red. I would suggest a short drinking window as a result. The wine is aged in puncheons for 16 months. Some 7,000 bottles were made.

Made with fruit from pre-phylloxera vines, the 2013 Carignano del Sulcis Superiore Arruga is a compelling expression with a bold and direct aromatic delivery that is super thick and concentrated. Dark fruit tones are followed by spice, leather and tobacco. The wine's overall definition is muted or soft, but its power and intensity is significant nonetheless. The alcohol is recorded at 15%. The wine moves smoothly and thickly over the palate in slow, enriched waves. Only 5,000 bottles were produced.

The dried cherry and strawberry fruit is accented by sweet notes of dark chocolate and soft raisin, but fresh acidity and savory hints of herb and forest floor impart balance. Chewy finish.
