The 2001 REGUENGOS GARRAFEIRA DOS SOCIOS refers to the sub-region of Alentejo (Reguengos) from which it comes and the best lots the winery has (meaning “members’ cellar). It spends a year in a tank, then 8-12 months in a mixture of Portuguese and French casks, and then it is aged in bottle for another year before release. It is a blend of Trincadeira, Aragonez and Castelao. It soft, lush and sensually textured, with tannins on the finish, which is a bit short on flavor, at least at the outset. The mid-palate is well on the elegant side, but this wine did an admirable job of expanding in the glass with air, managing to be quite charming and graceful while showing some more power and flesh. There is a touch of funk on the nose which pops up with extended aeration, perhaps the Trincadeira rearing its head. Drink now-2012. There were approximately 18,433 cases produced, of which only 50 were imported.CARMIM is a co-op in the Reguengos sub-region of Alentejo, the full name being Cooperativa Agricola de Reguengos de Monsaraz.Importer: Tri-Vin Imports, Mt.
