The 2010 QUINTA DE BONS-VENTOS is a blend of Castelao (50%), Camarate (20%) and 15% each of Tinta Miuda and Touriga Nacional. A low end entrant in pricing, it is thin, but friendly and tasty, with obvious sweet fruit flavors and little or no concentration. It works pretty well. A bit better structured than the winery’s “Lab” reviewed this issue, it is more likely to find wide appeal as it is a bit more traditional and straightforward. It has a “real wine” feel to it, and in this price range it offers some value and a little earthy charm. The 2008 BONS VENTOS (branded just that way now) is a blend of Castelao (50%), with the rest Camarate (20%), Touriga Nacional (15%) and Tinta Miuda (15%) aged in new oak for 4 months. This inexpensive offering can provide some value in the right vintage, and it is in pretty good form here, clean and tasty, with some brightness, focus and structure. There is not a lot of mid-palate concentration, but it has some charm and provides some bang for the buck and some pleasure. Just drink it young, as it is at peak now. Drink now-2012.
