The 1998 Rosso della Langhe Faletta (a 50% Barbera, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 25% Nebbiolo blend aged in barrique) is too internationally-styled for me, but the wine's quality is unquestionably good. Elegant black currant and cherry notes are combined with abundant quantities of toasty new oak, resulting in a medium-bodied, well-made wine to drink over the next decade. An awesome wine! This black/purple-colored blend of 50% Barbera, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 25% Nebbiolo, all aged in new French oak, is hugely extracted and extremely full-bodied. It boasts layer upon layer of jammy, concentrated cassis-dominated fruit with notes of cherry liqueur, spice box, licorice, and cedar. As the wine sits in the glass, some of Nebbiolo's tell-tale melted asphalt and rose petal perfume emerges.
