Ceuso’s Fastaia is one of the great values in Italian wine and it is once again superb in 2008. Fastaia, a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot aged in cement is essentially the second wine of the estate’s top of the line Ceuso. Gorgeous, well-delineated aromatics lead to ripe, dark fruit, grilled herbs, spices and cassis in a rich, yet beautifully balanced style. The fruit covers the tannins through to the long finish. Readers will have a hard time finding a better wine for the money. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2018.
