The medium-bodied palate is charged with energetic black fruits and loads of earthy sparks, framed by firm, ripe, grainy tannins and bold freshness, finishing long and lively.

The 2012 Dutruch Grand Poujeaux is one of those self-effacing, unpretentious wines that restores your faith in Bordeaux. Fresh and delineated on the nose with cedar and tobacco deftly infusing the black fruit, this is a no-frills bouquet that hits the sweet spot. It doesn't need to show off. The palate is well crafted with well-judged acidity, classically lined cedar-infused black fruit and a very well-balanced, "cool" finish that has just the right amount of dryness to urge another sip. A sleeper of the vintage, this delicious Moulis overcame issues with ripeness in this part of the Medoc, fashioning a beautiful blend of 54% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot. It exhibits a dark ruby/purple color along with a broad, savory mouthfeel and good purity as well as texture. Drink it over the next 5-7 years.
