I do not know of any other California winery that has put together such a blend as Montelena's St. Vincent. This used to be a wine produced to utilize some of their Sangiovese. However, like many wineries, Montelena feels (as do I) that California Sangiovese is generally a failure, and can not compete with Italian Sangiovese. The 1997 St. Vincent (3,000 cases) is an intriguing blend of 60% Zinfandel, 30% Primitivo, and 10% Sangiovese. It reveals a distinctively Italian personality with notes of melted asphalt, new saddle leather, berry fruit, pepper, and spice. With a fat, robust, hearty personality, as well as character and soul, it is meant to be consumed during its first 3-5 years of life. Tel. (707) 942-5105; Fax (707) 942-4221
