Chionetti’s 2011 Dolcetto di Dogliani Briccolero is more perfumed and silky than the San Luigi. All the elements are woven together beautifully in this totally impeccable, polished Dolcetto. Sweet red berries, licorice and rose petals wrap around the caressing, supple finish. This is a great showing for the Briccolero. Even better, the wine remains exceptionally well-priced considering its quality. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018. Chionetti can be counted on for deep, flavorful wines loaded with character. The 2010 Dolcetto di Dogliani Briccolero is a cool, inward red. It shows fabulous energy and dynamism in its blackberries, blueberries, licorice and spices, all of which flow through to the wonderfully knit, textured finish. Today the Briccolero is closed in on itself, but it will drink beautifully in another year or two. It is a wine of tremendous promise. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018. The estate’s 2009 Dolcetto di Dogliani Briccolero reveals a touch more vibrancy, freshness and verve than the San Luigi. Dark blueberries, blackberries, violets and crushed rocks are supported by firm, yet beautifully integrated tannins. Clean, mineral notes frame the dark, intense fruit through to the long, satisfying finish. This is a marvelous effort. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2019. The 2008 Dolcetto di Dogliani Briccolero possesses a touch more roundness than the San Luigi in its tobacco, dried flowers, cherries, plums and smoke. The 2008 is a relatively forward Briccolero best enjoyed over the next few years. Hints of licorice and leather on the finish add layers of complexity. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2014.
