A deep purple color is followed by hints of graphite, barbecue smoke, charcuterie, black raspberries and black currants. This full-bodied, opulent, fleshy, deep, pure wine with no hard edges is impossible to resist (as virtually every vintage I have tasted has been). Drink it over the next decade. Always one of the sexiest, most seductive offerings produced in St.-Emilion, this was made by consultant Michel Rolland, who has once again hit pay dirt with the 2012 Clos Dubreuil, a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc that achieved 14% natural alcohol. The vineyard was harvested between October 15-20 and yields were 31 hectoliters per hectare. The late harvest no doubt explains the reasonably high alcohol and lushness of this cuvee, whose melted, sweet tannins are hardly noticeable.
