This blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Petit Verdot opens to a darkly saturated color with a deep garnet core and crimson background layers. The Col d'Orcia 2016 Sant'Antimo Nearco shows a lot of Cabernet character with zesty notes, some subtle green highlights and savory crushed black pepper. The 2016 vintage probably falls on the slightly cooler side (definitely compared to 2015 or 2017), and this wine sports a sharp and more precise bouquet as a result. It offers a medium-weight character that feels robust and textured at first but ultimately falls gracefully with its final approach. There's a nice sense off lift-off at the very end. Some 27,000 bottles were released in November 2019.

The 2015 Sant'Antimo Nearco is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Some 25,000 bottles were made. This is a near term and approachable Tuscan red to pair with grilled Italian sausages with onions and green bell peppers. The wine offers loads of succulent softness with medium to full-bodied structure to hold it all together. I'm not sure which grape plays a dominant role, but to my palate I taste the Cabernet Sauvignon with the greatest clarity. Dark fruit is followed by grilled rosemary and scorched earth. The warm vintage is nicely expressed here. This is a good value.

Loaded with juicy raspberry, cherry and boysenberry fruit, this is delicate in flavor and muscular in structure. Graphite and leafy, underbrush accents round out the profile. Still fresh and young, this weaves fruit flavors around the tannins for a long, detailed aftertaste. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.
