A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot aged in barrique for 18 months, the 2019 Collazzi is a dark wine with a weighty, full-bodied approach. The fruit is very black, almost inky, and the wine shows the extra concentration to pair with grilled lamb chops. The aromas are tightly woven together with highlights of cherry liqueur, cedar and exotic spice. The effect is lifted and vertical. Some 50,000 bottles were made.

From a very hot vintage, the Collazzi 2017 Collazzi is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. This is a generous and thickly layered Tuscan red that unfolds slowly to show blackberry, dried cherry, spice, tobacco, leather and grilled herb. Collazzi is the quintessential steak-and-potatoes wine with lots of dark fruit, smoke and a solid structure to pair with a hearty meal taken straight off the grill.

The Collazzi 2016 Collazzi is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot available in a large production of 60,000 bottles made annually. This is a balanced vintage with fresh fruit aromas of blackberry and wild cherry presented in a clear and linear manner. The wine is softly tannic and mildly structured, with good length.

A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, the 2015 Collazzi is a dark and impenetrable red wine that sits heavily in the glass, emitting pulses of power, brawn and unmistakable determination. The bouquet is compact and thickly layered with smoke, tobacco, black fruit, prune, blackberry preserves and campfire ash. You get it all with this opulent barrique-aged Tuscan blend. The finish is enriched, extracted and smooth. Those firm tannins are neatly folded in at the back of this bold Tuscan red.

The estate’s 2006 Collazzi is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot that spent 18 months in French oak. It is a beautiful wine that captures the essence of these international varieties while avoiding the excessive heaviness and oakiness so typical of the genre. Firm yet silky tannins frame blackberries, herbs, cedar, menthol and subtle French oak in this engaging, generous red. The Rosso is already fairly open at this stage, but has the potential to develop nicely over the coming years. It will be a fascinating wine to follow. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020. These are the first wines I have tasted from Collazzi, a property that has belonged to Lamberto Frescobaldi’s family on his mother’s side since 1933. These new releases are very promising.
