The 2005 Shiraz “Oak Aged” is another flamboyant wine, but it would be my pick of the three. Think “Big Barossa,” and you have Dalton’s style down, although there is little of distinction here. The wine has plenty of everything, including power, sweetness and oak. The flavors are laced with oaky nuances. There is also a certain candied note on the finish and a note of kirsch. As with the Zin, I can say that it does its style fairly well, but it will be a wine that some will rightly consider a bit too flamboyant, over the top, and too sweet. It is somewhat more under control than the Zin, though, and does soften nicely with air. At that point, it seems simple and foursquare, but pleasant enough. Drink now-2012. Dalton’s wines have one thing in common – flamboyance. They tend to have an obvious sweetness that seems eccentric at times. This is Kosher. Importer: Allied Importers, Long Island City, N.Y.; tel.
