The still unbottled 2022 4 Kilos was surprisingly fresh and floral, from grapes harvested early and quite quickly, fermented with 60% carbonic maceration and the rest with short macerations and then matured in foudre, as they didn't want to put the wine in barrel. I tasted the final blend from a stainless steel tank waiting to be bottled around March 2024, as the winter in tank is going to stabilize it. It's clean, tasty and harmonious, with purity and very fine tannins. Callet takes heat quite well, and it behaved very well in 2022. There should be volume similar to recent years, around 16,000 bottles.

The 2021 4 Kilos is beautiful, perfumed, elegant, nuanced and subtle with floral notes, Mediterranean herbs, red berries and a spicy twist. It's expressive, open and fine-boned, with a moderate 12% alcohol and a velvety palate. This is medium-bodied, delicate and precise, very much in line with the 2020.

The eponymous red 2020 4 Kilos is a delicate, pure Callet bottled at 12% alcohol from 20- to 50-year-old, organically farmed vines in different vineyards on call vermell red soils in the village of Felanitx. It fermented in equal parts in stainless steel and oak vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in third- and fourth-use 600-liter Allier oak barrels for 12 months. It's perfumed and elegant, with notes of dried rose petal and talcum powder, perfumed and spicy, with orange peel freshness. This is serious and balanced, not exuberant, it's even a little shy, insinuating and tasty in a very subtle way. It's clean and precise. It takes over your taste buds in a quiet and harmonious way. The tannins are very fine and give it a chalky texture and a tasty finish. This has to be their finest vintage to date. Bravo! 16,000 bottles and 300 magnums were produced. It was bottled in February 2022.

I had very high expectations for the 2018s and was really looking forward to tasting the eponymous and flagship 2018 4 Kilos. It's pure Callet from organically farmed vineyards on cal vermell soils. It was fermented in equal parts stainless steel and 2,500-liter oak vats and matured in well-seasoned 600-liter French oak barrels for 12 months. This follows the path of the 2016 and is fresher than the 2017. It's more closed and austere than the Grimalt/Caballero. It felt a little shy and took some time to open up in the glass. It was an elegant, serious and nuanced vintage, with very good freshness with vibrant flavors, great definition and symmetry. There are more herbs here and more spice in the Grimalt/Caballero. This is the finest vintage to date of their 4 Kilos bottling. 16,000 bottles and 300 magnums produced. It was bottled in December 2019.

I tasted an unbottled sample of the 2017 4 Kilos that was assembled from different lots. Even though the nose shows less precision, the final wine can change, the nose can develop; unbottled samples are prone to oxidation and deviations, and the nose must be taken with a grain of salt. In situations like this, I try to guide myself by the palate, where the wine shows very good freshness and elegance for an extremely warm year. In 2017, they had to sort and select the grapes and ended producing fewer bottles (perhaps 3,000 bottles less than the usual). A triumph for the vintage.
