The red Sumoll 2016 Collita Roja was produced with grapes from five or six old vineyards planted by their grandparents in the north of Penedès in the villages of Torrelavit, Sant Lloren? d'Hortons, Piera and La Llacuna. In 2016, they selected the grapes from a centenary plot in Ponnou and another one planted in 1949 in Can Canals on sandy soils. It fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in barriques, concrete and stainless steel for six months. This is perfumed and aromatic, with violets and blood orange, spicy and smoky. They have been fine-tuning the use of oak, because the grape is quite sensitive to wood. But this is still from another era, and they have now started purchasing oak vats and foudres, because they realized the oak had to be used and they really needed larger sizes. 2016 was very warm and very dry and it was a generous crop, but the wines show the ripeness. I tasted a bottle of the 2011 that had more oak, but the wine was still lively. 4,000 bottles were filled in June 2017.

The 2013 Collita Roja, pure Sumoll, fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in cement eggs and used barrels for ten months. It has a reticent nose with a mixture of wild berries and some spices. The palate is medium-bodied with some rustic tannins and a chalky sensation, nicely balanced. 4,087 bottles

The showy 2012 Collita Roja, produced with the local red variety Sumoll, has a bright ruby color and a nose of red wild berries intermixed with thyme and rosemary and a spicy/smoky hint from part of the wine maturing in used oak barrels and the rest being kept in vat. The palate reveals some of the rustic character of the grape, with something earthy, clean flavors and good freshness. 2,660 bottles produced.

The 2011 Collita Roja is produced from Sumoll grapes from a single vineyard of 0.72 hectares in St. Llorenc d'Hortons on chalky soils, planted in 1949. The wine has a bright ruby color and a shiny nose of bright red fruits intermixed with strong balsamic aromas of wild herbs, intensely Mediterranean with lots of character, and a tasty, light to medium-bodied palate with piercing licorice and ripe fruit flavors that transport you to a Mediterranean forest. With time, more continental and Atlantic notes develop in the glass, which give the wine more depth and complexity. I loved it. Drink now-2020. Born in St. Sadurni d-Anoia, winemaker Ramon Parera and vine-grower Jordi Arnan started this project in 1996 with a solid base of 40 hectares of vineyards in the property Can Comas.
