While the special cuvees here get all the attention, the straight estate releases always over-deliver, and the 2013 Syrah Estate looks to continue that trend. Exhibiting the classic Syrah dark berry fruit, violets, pepper and wild herb aromas and flavors, it’s full-bodied, layered and seamless, with a hard-to-resist personality. It should drink nicely on release and evolve through 2023. As always, I had a great visit with winemaker Anthony Yount. The wines continue to go from strength to strength, and at this point, are a match for anything coming out of the west side of Paso Robles. These are high-quality wines that merit attention. Tel. Always rock solid, the 2012 Syrah Denner Vineyard offers classic Paso notes of black and blue fruits, pepper, underbrush and spring flowers to go with a medium to full-bodied, beautifully textured, balanced style on the palate. Possessing a great mid-palate and ample length, it will put a smile on anyone's face over the coming decade.

Moving on to the Rhone blends, and a smoking Syrah, the 2010 Syrah (100% Syrah fermented 20% whole cluster and aged 18 months in 80% new French oak) is classic Paso Robles in style with its locked-and-loaded profile, decadent richness and blockbuster finish. A full-bodied, sexy effort that gives up an assortment of blackberry fruit, licorice, roasted herbs and hints of violets, it is drinking beautifully now and should continue to deliver the goods through 2018, possibly longer. Drink now-2018. This was a beautiful lineup of wines by winemaker Anthony Yount and I continue to be impressed with the wines of this estate. Located on the western edge of Paso Robles, the wines possess individual, unique characters that show not only Paso fruit, but balance and restraint. They’re highly recommended. Tel.
