Revisited in bottle, Glantenay's 2019 Pommard 1er Cru Les Saussilles wafts from the glass with notes of sweet berry fruit and plums mingled with warm spices and peonies. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and elegant, with fine depth at the core, lively acids and a long, saline finish, it's already very charming, though this is reliably a site that takes some time to show its cards.

Revisited in bottle, the 2018 Pommard 1er Cru Les Saussilles has turned out nicely, revealing aromas of cherries, sweet red berries, candied peel, smoked meats and raw cocoa. Medium to full-bodied, layered and lively, with superb depth of fruit and fine but youthfully chalky tannins, this promises to age with grace.

Aromas of sweet red berries, orange rind and currant leaf introduce the 2017 Pommard 1er Cru Les Saussilles, a medium to full-bodied wine with a supple, velvety attacker's, a deep, concentrated mid-palate and a long, tangy finish. The cool mesoclimate and old vines show in this cuvée's intensity and bright line of acidity.

The 2016 Pommard 1er Cru les Saucilles is blended with 30% whole-bunch fruit this year. This has a feisty bouquet with macerated small black cherries that are just given a lift by the VA. The aromatics seem to calm down with aeration and eventually find their groove, becoming more harmonious and with that volatility ebbing away. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin that feels more supple than the Volnay Caillerets. This is harmonious in the mouth with hints of oyster shell tincturing that black fruit toward the linear finish. Give this three or four years at least so that it fills out on the finish. Good potential here and certainly this is a Pommard with plenty of freshness.
