The second iteration of a new cuvée blending communal and premier cru holdings in this climat together, the 2019 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Fourneaux crusts from the glass with aromas of sweet berries, peonies, spices and soil tones. Medium-bodied, supple and lively, with a sweet core of fruit, melting tannins and a saline finish, it's a charming, giving Savigny that was bottled shortly before I tasted it.

Aromas of rose petals, dark chocolate and loamy soil marry with rich, plummy fruit, introducing the 2018 Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Fourneaux, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and gourmand wine built around powdery tannins and succulent acids. This confirms its fine showing in barrel, and the ripeness of the vintage means that it's quite approachable out of the gates.

The 2016 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Fournaux bursts with notes of sweet cherries, mossy soil and spices, subtly framed by new wood. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and fine-grained, with a generous core of juicy fruit, an open-knit profile and gently chewy tannins on the back end.

The 2015 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Fournaux, which comes from vines located on the mid-slope, has a tightly wound, pressed rose petal-tinged bouquet that clearly possesses more harmony and cohesion than the village cru. The palate is grainy on the entry with dusky black fruit, quite pointed acidity and showing some bitter cherry, earthy notes on the masculine, austere finish. It needs the flesh that I anticipated in this vintage - this feels a little raw compared to the Pernand-Vergelesses from Chandon des Briailles.
