Always a great Cotes du Rhone, the 2012 is no exception. A blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah and the balance other permitted varieties, it screams Southern Rhone on the nose with sweet kirsch, saddle leather, garrigue and ground herbs. Medium-bodied, supple and hard to resist, with a quaffable feel, it should be purchased by the case and consumed over the coming 3-4 years. Drink now-2018.
One of my favorite estates and run by Yannick and Corinne Gasparri, Domaine la Cote de l’Ange produces textbook, classically styled efforts that are loaded with character. Their 2010s were spectacular, and these 2011s and 2012s aren’t far behind.
