Fleshy and layered, the 2019 Pommard Vieilles Vignes is a medium to full-bodied, lively and nicely concentrated wine that evokes aromas of raspberries, plums and spices, deftly framed by a touch of oak. A touch deeper than the corresponding Volnay, it's a fine bottle in the making.

As usual, the 2018 Pommard Vieilles Vignes is a touch more muscular than the corresponding Volnay, but it's no less refined this year, delivering aromas of plums, cherries and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, velvety, nicely concentrated palate.

Leaning toward the tart side, this red displays cranberry, currant and leafy tobacco flavors, with an underpinning of iron. Elegant for the appellation despite the firm structure, picking up spice notes on the finish. The 2016 Pommard Villages, which was bottled in December as Jean-Pierre felt there was little point in extending the élevage, has a winsome cranberry and raspberry-scented bouquet, the oak neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, atypically showing more flesh and body than the Volnay Village, smooth in the mouth with lovely black plum and crushed strawberry on the easygoing finish. Lovely, just lovely.
