In the past, Alsatians would often make 'field blends' - an assemblage of the different types of vines located on a given terroir. Presently, there appears to be a revival taking place. One of the field blends produced by Jean-Michel Deiss is the 1997 Gentil du Burg. This is an enchanting wine that displays candied orange rind, honeysuckle, and perfumed aromas. It is medium-bodied, wonderfully expressive, floral, and filled with red berries, pears, as well as chalk flavors. This silky-textured offering will be at its best if consumed prior to 2005.Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel (202) 832-9083.
