The 2018 Maranges 1er Cru La Fussière wafts from the glass with aromas of cherries, raspberries and candied peel, followed by a medium to full-bodied, velvety palate with good depth at the core and refined tannins that assert themselves on the back end.

An unpretentious, succulent red, the 2017 Maranges 1er Cru La Fussière bursts with exuberant aromas of cherries, loamy soil and a subtle hint of pencil lead. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and expressive, with youthfully chewy tannins and a generous core of fruit. Elsa Matrot contends that this site performs well in vintages that yield abundant juice, and her 2017 is certainly persuasive.

Offering up pretty aromas of raspberries, cherries and candied peel, the 2016 Maranges 1er Cru La Fussière is medium-bodied, satiny and nicely concentrated, with good depth at the core, ripe tannins and a penetrating finish. It's an excellent Maranges that Elsa Matrot purchases as grapes from her brother-in-law—who happens to be one of the appellation's best producers.
