The 2019 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Les Fichots reveals aromas of sweet red berries, plums, raw cocoa and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, layered and velvety, with beautifully refined tannins and a long, penetrating finish, this is another of the most charming wines in the Rossignol range this year.

The 2016 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Les Fichots was cropped at four barrels for just under a hectare. That's bugger all. Nevertheless, it offers attractive blackcurrant, blood orange and tangerine scents on the nose, just a slight sanguinous scent emerging. The palate is well balanced with fine tannin, lovely structure and a brisk, brine-tinged finish that is beautifully focused. This is a very classy Pernand-Vergelesses—shame there is so little.

The 2014 Pernand Vergelesses 1Er Cru les Fichots has a surprisingly rich bouquet, vivacious with Morello cherry and boysenberry jam aromas, nicely defined with hints of dark chocolate -- perhaps from the 20% Fran?ois Frères (this will be integrated by the time of bottling). The palate is rounded on the entry with a fine bead of acidity and there is good backbone with an almost Pommard-like finish, which displays fine density. I can see this aging well for a Pernand-Vergelesses; it is rustic but charming.
