Marked by scents of crushed stone and red plums, Gaillard's 2017 Cornas is a medium to full-bodied effort that shows a sense of reserve on the palate. It's silky, with fine-grained tannins on the crisp finish. Drink it over the next 6-7 years.

This bursts with warm raspberry and plum compote flavors, streaked with savory, thyme and tobacco notes and framed by a light singed alder hint on the finish. Approachable, but there's no rush. Old school all the way, notes of cedar, white pepper, game and both blackberry and cassis emerge from Gaillard's 2015 Cornas, which despite the old-school billing was aged in 50% new barrels. Medium to full-bodied, fresh and focused, with beautiful delineation and ripe tannin, it stays focused and lively on the palate. It will keep for 10-15 years.

The 2014s were all tasted out of bottle. One of my favorite wines from Gaillard is his Cornas, and his 2014 Cornas has a classic, old-school feel (despite aging in 50% new barrels) in its spicy, herbal, cedar and leather-laced bouquet. Medium-bodied, with solid sweetness of fruit and a good mid-palate, it should be drunk over the coming 7-8 years.

This sports a very lively herbal edge, showing savory, thyme and rosemary notes racing along with the core of bright red currant and bitter cherry fruit.
