The 2012 Laborum Torrontes, from the Salta region, has a pleasant, almost Alsace-like bouquet with notes of pear, nectarine and honeysuckle. The palate is fresh and exhibits good weight on the entry, with grapefruit, melon and nectarine combining well. It shows fine focus, although the finish is just a little predictable. Still, this is a well-made Torrontes. Drink now-2015. Bodegas El Povenir de los Andes (to give it its full title) was founded in 1890 in the Cafayate Valley. However, it was only in 1999 that it was given a new lease on life when it was purchased by the Romero-Marcuzzi family, who already owned a winery nearby in Tolombon. El Porvenir de Los Andes’ 2008 Laborum Torrontes was sourced from a 40-year-old vineyard at 6000 feet of elevation. Medium straw-colored, it offers up a fragrant nose of baking spices, lychee, pit fruits, and a hint of tropical aromas.
