The 2006 Reserva Especial, from the earliest harvest ever at Enate, is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot aged in new French oak barrels for 19 months. Not bad for an early harvest as the wine weighs in at 15.6% alcohol and 2.3 grams of residual sugar. This is usually my favorite in the Enate lineup, but I'm a little disappointed today; this vintage feels very ripe with hints of volatility and some notes of evolution. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with plenty of tannins, drying toward the end. At this stage, this wine is more than ready, and there is no reason to keep it in the cellar any longer. Yes, I'm afraid the price is correct...
