The 2020 Rosso di Montalcino shows a dark and almost spicy quality of Sangiovese, shaped by hot-vintage conditions. It offers a smooth ride with dark fruit, cherry, earth and iris root. It also shows hints of white pepper, cinnamon and cured tobacco. Those savory tones are discreet, but it feels like they are coming from the fruit as much as from oak aging (in botte and barrique for a brief six months). This is a 45,000-bottle release and a great value.

The 2019 Rosso di Montalcino is redolent of bright cherry, redcurrant, blue flower and lilac. The wine has a lot of energy and life, with an easy progression of characteristic Sangiovese red fruit followed by bitter almond and grilled herb. This is a happy, easy-drinking Tuscan red.

Fanti's 2016 Rosso di Montalcino is a firm and compact wine that would stand tall next to your favorite pasta or meat dishes. The wine is fundamentally bright and exuberant, showing an attractive and exciting level of primary fruit intensity. However, this Rosso is easy-drinking, informal and exceedingly food friendly at its core. Some 55,000 bottles were made.
