The Galardi 2018 Piedirosso Terra di Rosso sees fruit from volcanic soils, and the wine is aged in Allier and Nevers French oak for eight months. This is a polished, mid-weight red with wild aromas of forest berry, blackcurrant and earthy volcanic ash. The results are bright and vibrant with pretty primary fruit. Production is 3,000 bottles.

Here's a fun new discovery from Galardi. Opening to a luscious dark color, the 2017 Piedirosso Terra di Rosso shows dark aromas with tarry smoke and plummy intensity. Power and concentration are the message here, with oak spice, leather and cedar. There is some baked, hot-vintage cherry too. Keep the pairing flexible and the drinking near term. Some 6,500 bottles were made.
