The 2007 SolAlto offers up apricot jam, cinnamon, dried rose petals and orange peel in an upfront, juicy style best enjoyed with light cheeses or fruit-based desserts. In 2007 Sol Alto seems to have a touch more roundness than is often the case. The balance and poise here are both tops. Enjoy this mid-weight dessert wine over the next few years. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2015. Elisabetta Geppetti is doing just about everything right at Le Pupille. A massive tasting of 30 wines going back to 1987 found a number of older vintages in great shape and a signficiant rise in quality starting around 2000 that continues to the present. I will report on that tasting on www.erobertparker.com. In the meantime, readers will find much pleasure in these new releases. The only wine I didn't care for was the entry-level red Pelofino, which in 2008 and 2009 doesn't approach the level of quality readers have come to expect from Le Pupille.Importer: Selected Estates of Europe, Mamaroneck, NY; tel. The 2006 SolAlto (Traminer, Sauvignon, Semillon) has come together beautifully since I first reviewed it two years ago. If anything, this tasting suggests the estate may be releasing the wine too early. Mint, spices, orange marmalade and tangerine are some of the aromas and flavors that develop in the glass in this soft, delicate dessert wine. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2016. Elisabetta Geppetti makes some of the most delicious wines in the Tuscan Maremma. The sweet 2005 Solalto offers candied orange peel, honey, burnt sugar and caramel in a full-bodied, somewhat oxidative style. Historically this is a wine that has shown a lot a variation from vintage to vintage. The 2005 comes across as slightly heavy-handed and lacking freshness. Sol Alto is made from late-harvested Sauvignon, Semillon and Traminer. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2012.Proprietor Elisabetta Geppetti has been making terrific wines for some time, but she hit the bulls-eye in 2004 with her Saffredi.
