Deep ruby, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon opens with crème de cassis, cedar, pencil shavings and eucalyptus with nuances of cast iron, black plum and black cherry plus sweet spice hints. Medium to full-bodied, it has a good core of ripe fruits with a chalky frame and juicy freshness, finishing with oak spices.

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is medium to deep garnet-purple colored and scented of crushed blueberries and blackcurrants with hints of chocolate mints and garrigue plus a touch of pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, it has a firm frame of grainy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing with good length. 25,000 cases produced.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is scented of crème de cassis, baked blackberries and mocha with touches of bay leaves and cedar. Medium-bodied, the palate reveals a good core of pure black berry preserves flavors, supported by fine-grained tannins and ample acidity, finishing with herbal freshness.

The outstanding 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley displays classy notes of charcoal, camphor, blackcurrants, licorice and forest floor. Full-bodied with sweet tannin, a nicely layered mouthfeel, and an accessible personality, it spent 16 months in French oak, a component that frames the wine but does not intrude on the aromatics or flavors. This beauty showcases the high quality Cabernet Sauvignon that often comes from Alexander Valley. Drink it over the next 10-15 years.

From relatively high elevation mountain vineyards, the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon possesses floral, blueberry and black currant aromas intermixed with hints of graphite and spice box. Medium-bodied with sweet tannin and a surprisingly civilized, polite style for a high elevation Cabernet, it is a mid-weight, Bordeaux-like red that should drink nicely for 7-8 years. (Not yet released) While there is a lamentable tendency to call these wines “too commercial,” the fact is the quality is high and there is good availability.
