The fruit for this 2021 Mere et Fils Chardonnay was handpicked, whole-bunch pressed, then fermented and matured in French oak (the classic Australian process). This is creamy and very light and layered with banana lollipops, pear drops, lemon barley and peach syrup. It's fresh and fine but sweetly flavored, which detracts from any possible complexity.

From a couple of sites in the Adelaide Hills, the 2017 Mere et Fils Chardonnay offers pear and green apple aromas on the nose. It's half barrel-fermented in second and third use barrels, with the other half fermented and aged in tank. The result is medium-bodied and plump, with a pleasant creaminess on the mid-palate, then a crisp, citrusy finish.
