The blend is Sangiovese (60%), Sagrantino, Cabernet Franc and Merlot and the mouthfeel is surprisingly tame and smooth. Richly layered fruit tones of prune and dark plum give the wine momentum. The 2007 Montefalco Rosso Riserva opens with a ripe, sweet bouquet that leads to expressive red fruit, hard candy, flowers and spices. The 2006 Montefalco Rosso Riserva is a pretty, mid-weight red laced with cherries, dried flowers, sweet tobacco and licorice. Soft, silky tannins frame an expressive core of bright red fruits through to the long persistent finish.
