As with most reds, I tasted two vintages, so I was able to compare the 2018 Goliardo Loureiro with the 2017. There is some creaminess and a spicy/smoky touch, a toasted twist; it seems like they used one new 500-liter barrel out of two, and it was enough to mark the final blend. The wine is more balanced, fresher and deeper than the 2017, but the oak is a bit intrusive. I think these marine reds do not go well with new oak. It should improve with some more time in bottle. 1,300 bottles produced. 1,300 bottles. It was bottled in April 2019.

Loureiro Tinto is the only red grape from Rías Baixas that has a deep color, and the 2017 Goliardo Loureiro certainly has that. The grapes are from a 45-year-old vineyard planted on sandy soils, fermented destemmed in stainless steel and oak barrels, and then the wine matured in 500-liter oak barrels for 12 months. Loureiro is close to Sousón and Ferrón in style, the family of darker, more rustic red Galician varieties, and it's always a little earthy. It's quite round and juicy, with some dusty tannins. Within its rusticity, this is finer and more elegant than the Loureiro from the past. 1,300 bottles were filled in February 2020.

Despite the natural rusticity and power of the grape, the 2016 Goliardo Loureiro feels sleeker and more polished than any vintage prior to this one. They matured the wine in brand new oak, which didn't impart aromas or flavors, but it clearly polished the tannins. There's quite a lot of acidity here, but it's somewhat balanced by tannins. I believe that they are finally mastering the production of red Loureiro, which is not an easy thing to do... Some 1,000 bottles produced.

The most powerful red grape from Rías Baixas is the Loureiro, which tends to produce wines of deep color and plenty of tannin. The 2015 Goliardo Loureiro has those varietal characteristics but seems a little more domesticated. They started using newer barrels for the élevage, and the strategy seems to have paid off. 2015 is a powerful vintage, which even amplifies the style of the variety. It has aromas of brambles and fountain pen ink and a powdery texture from fine and abundant tannins. It needs time and/or powerful food.

The darker 2014 Goliardo Loureiro is always the more concentrated, rustic and tannic of the reds. There are notes of shoe polish and graphite intermixed with the flowers and spices. The palate revealed some dusty tannins and good acidity. 1,000 bottles were filled in April 2016.
