Produced from purchased fruit that comes from 55-year-old vines on the Pernand-Vergelesses side of its vineyard, the 1999 Corton-Charlemagne Cuvee Unique exhibits pear, spice, and sweet oak notes. Medium-bodied, elegant, and concentrated, it is a well-made, gorgeously detailed offering. Minerals, pears, candied apples, and nutmeg can be discerned in its flavor profile. Its admirably long finish reveals touches of new oak. Anticipated maturity: now-2007. Importer: David Hinkle / Peter Vezan, North Berkeley Imports, Berkeley, CA; tel. (800) 266-6585.
