This is basically the equivalent of a grower sparkling wine in Spain. A low dosage is based on a solera system going back to 1870! Composed of Chardonnay and Xarella, it exhibits crisp, minerally notes intermixed with hints of orange rind, brioche and lemon zest, light to medium body, and a chalky character. Cavas have come of age and are better than ever, and this impressive, boutique version is well worth trying. It should provide pleasure for several years. Brioche, almonds, floral notes, and green apple inform the nose of the 2007 Brut Gran Cuvee. A frothy mousse, a lower than normal dosage for an entry-level wine, and lively acidity make for a great bargain in Cava. Drink it over the next 1-2 years. The 2006 Gran Cuvee is a custom bottling for importer Eric Solomon. It is composed of equal parts Xarello, Macabeo, and Chardonnay. Light gold-colored, it has an enticing bouquet of mineral, brioche, and toast. It has a persistent stream of tiny bubbles and an attractive mousse. On the palate a flavor of lemon curd emerges along with crisp mineral notes. It has good weight on the mouth and a lengthy finish. The Celler Gramona N.V. Gran Cuvee received 88 points in Issue 175.
