Very deep garnet colored, the 2006 Roennfeldt Road Shiraz is profoundly scented of warm mulberries, prunes, dark chocolate and plum pudding with an undercurrent of allspice, cinnamon stick, aniseed, mincemeat and salami plus a whiff of potpourri. Very big, voluptuous and densely packed in the mouth (coming in at 17% declared alcohol), it offers a multilayered powerhouse of spice and dried fruit flavors with very crisp acid to enliven and a medium to firm level of grainy tannins to lend support. It finishes very long, spicy and a little warm. Drinking very well now, it should cellar to 2022+. Importer: No Known American Importer.

The 2005 Roennfeldt Road Shiraz is very deep purple-black in color. It presents and incredible array of pronounced spice, earth, floral and savory aromas: blackberry preserves, dried mulberries, coffee, grilled duck, vanilla, cloves, fenugreek, violets and dried rose petals plus some shavings of dark chocolate. Very full and very rich in the mouth, at 17.5% declared alcohol this is not a wine for the faint hearted. Though youthful it’s already multi-layered and the opulent flesh is well supported by a good backbone of crisp acid and a high level of velvety tannins. The finish is very, very long. This Shiraz has great balance for the alcohol and although the wine leaves a bit of heat in the finish it neither overpowers nor detracts from the layers of complex flavors. Deep garnet-black colored, Greenock Creek's 2004 Roennfeldt Road Shiraz reveals a profoundly complex nose of mulberries, warmed plums, kirsch, crème de cassis, melted chocolate, spice cake, liquored sultanas and eucalypt. The very full bodied palate is concentrated, rich and opulent, flavored with a mix of dried fruits and Indian spices coming through in layers. The acid is crisp and seamless, not overdone, while the tannins are firm, ripe and finely grained. It finishes long, spicy and exquisitely balanced. To preserve the purity / delineation of aromas and flavors, I'd recommend not drinking this wine too warm, ideally enjoying it at a temperature just above cellar temps: around 15-17 degrees C (59-63 degrees F). The 2003 Shiraz Roennfeldt Road offers up an ethereal perfume of sandalwood, incense, lavender, Asian spices, and blueberry compote. Rich, dense, and very long in the finish, the wine’s 18.5% alcohol pokes through with a touch of heat. For that reason, it is likely to be controversial.Greenock Creek’s latest collection is a bit more mixed than usual due to the more challenging nature of the vintages from which these wine were produced.
