Gross’s 2006 Gewurztraminer Nussberg – which I tasted from cask – is grown on steep, stony terraces just below the winery. The influence of barriques and this wine’s low level residual sugar are both well-integrated into a refined expression of classic Traminer virtues: rose petal, mint, bacon fat, and black pepper. Creamy rich yet clear and pure, complex yet understated, full of inner-mouth perfume and rich nut oil undertones, yet also of sheer fresh fruit and saline mineral suggestions, this will be a joy to drink in its youth, but also displays potential for 5-7 years of further bottle age.Alois Gross harvested his entire crop in less than three weeks during October.Importer: Vin Divino, Chicago, IL; tel.
