The 2006 Baroota Shiraz comes from the Southern Flinders Ranges, the newest and most northerly GI of South Australia and is considered a warm climate region. The vines are over thirty years of age and yield less than 1.5 tons per acre. The wine was aged in French and American oak hogsheads, 25% new. Deep crimson-colored, it emits an expressive perfume of cedar, pepper, violets, and blueberry. Firm on the palate, this flavorful, structured effort will evolve for several years and drink well through 2021. Owner/winemaker Ross Trimboli buys grapes from many regions with Kangaroo Island being the latest addition to the portfolio. Both offerings from the latter are from five-year-old vines but that youthfulness is not apparent on the palate.Importer: Dan Philips. The Grateful Palate, Oxnard, CA; tel. (805) 278-9095
