The 2003 Gran Seleccion is made only in the best vintages. Made from 100% Tempranillo, it has splendid aromatics with notes of mineral, scorched earth, espresso, incense, and black cherry that leap from the glass. On the palate it is muscular, large-scaled, and still tightly wound. It has superior fruit extraction, full tannins, plenty of spicy fruit, and a lengthy finish. The 2001 Gran Seleccion is chosen from the estate’s oldest vines and best barrels. Dark ruby colored, it reveals a superb nose of wood smoke, mineral, pencil lead, Asian spices, black cherry, and blackberry. This is followed by an opulent, smooth-textured wine with complex flavors, outstanding depth and concentration, well-concealed silky tannin, and 6-8 years of aging potential.
