The 2001 Gran Seleccion is chosen from the estate’s oldest vines and best barrels. Dark ruby colored, it reveals a superb nose of wood smoke, mineral, pencil lead, Asian spices, black cherry, and blackberry. This is followed by an opulent, smooth-textured wine with complex flavors, outstanding depth and concentration, well-concealed silky tannin, and 6-8 years of aging potential. Drink this classy effort through 2030. As a side note, the 2001 Vina Pedrosa Gran Reserva was austere, ungiving, and needs to be retasted.Importer: Christopher Cannan, Europvin; www.vinapedrosa.com
