Made with air-dried Montepulciano grapes, the 2007 Controguerra Passito Nicó is a syrupy sweet red wine. Actually, the color is blackish with purple concentration. On the nose you can smell dried fruit aromas of raisin, prune and black currant. The wine delivers an interesting caliber of sweetness that is soft and rich on the palate, but that never feels overtly saccharine or cloying. It achieves a pretty balance because of this contrast.
