Scheduled to be bottled in June, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon State Lane Vineyard Estate Cuvée includes 1% Merlot. Led by cherry and black cherry fruit, with hints of menthol and cedar, it's medium to full-bodied, silky, smooth and easy to drink. It's not overly tannic but finishes long and reasonably elegant.

The only red wine bottled by Kapcsandy this vintage, the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon State Lane Vineyard Estate Cuvée is limited to 225 cases, a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot. According to Louis Kapcsandy, just three blocks were picked on September 24 and 25, and while they did some micro-ferments following the outbreak of the Glass Fire on September 27, they didn't pick the rest of the vineyard. The wine is gently herbal, with subtle cedar shadings, ripe cherries and dried spices. It's medium to full-bodied, silky and fine, and even if it lacks a bit of richness and depth, it's a pretty, accessible and very drinkable effort.

The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Cuvee is pure, seamless and totally beautiful. Hints of chocolate, cloves and gingerbread appear on the nose, followed by rich, deep layers of fruit. There is a baritone-like expression in the 2009 that is striking. Sweet floral notes appear later, adding lift, vibrancy and freshness. In other words, all the elements are perfectly in balance. This is a gorgeous 2009. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029.
