Aged 19 months in 50% new French oak, the medium ruby colored 2017 Pinot Noir Kanzler Vineyard gives up cinnamon toast, pipe tobacco, pencil shavings, moss-covered bark and mushrooms with a core of blackberries, redcurrant and cranberries. Medium-bodied, it's earthy but countered by bright berry flavors, with a grainy frame and juicy acidity lifting the finish. This needs another year or two in bottle to come together but should result in a lovely, earth-driven expression. 850 cases produced.

Aged 16 months in 39% new French oak, the medium ruby colored 2016 Pinot Noir Kanzler Vineyard opens with touches of tar and gunflint that give way to aromas of crushed blackberries, black tea leaves, cumin seed, turned earth and red berries in the undercurrent with a cola hint. The palate is light-bodied and restrained, with meaty and earthy notions and a firm frame, finishing lifted with bright acidity. 700 cases produced.

Notes of raspberries, strawberries, rose petals and ample floral, sappy nuances emerge from the 2014 Pinot Noir Kanzler Vineyard, which has rocking purity, notable freshness and a lively, clean, medium to full-bodied feel on the palate. Coming from a site on the Sonoma Coast, fermented with 14% whole clusters and aged in 41% new French oak, this is one of the more classic, cool-climate releases from this team. Drink it anytime over the coming decade.

The last vineyard harvested, the 2013 Pinot Noir Kanzler Vineyard, wasn’t brought in until between the 8th and 11th of October. Mostly destemmed and aged 16 months in just under 40% new French oak, it has a cool, fresh, perfumed style to go with lots of rose garden, framboise, black cherry and spice. Lightly textured, elegant and vibrant, it should benefit from a year in bottle and drink well through 2023.

Showing a fresh, perfumed and graceful style, the 2012 Pinot Noir Kanzler Vineyard possesses sweet berry fruits, damp underbrush, spring flowers and light spice in its delicate, sweetly fruited personality. It doesn't quite have the depth of the other wines here, but it has a lively, pure texture and excels on its balance and harmony. Already hard to resist, plan on drinking this over the coming 3-5 years.
