The 2008 Weissburgunder trocken S – harvested from several parcels, principally in the Kapellenberg, and not until late October and early November – displays fresh apple and lime, almond, and hazelnut which seem to have taken nicely to hints of wood from cask, but without sacrificing any refreshment. Of course, this would hardly be successful Pinot Blanc if – in addition to its nutty flavor elements – there were not also a hint of creaminess. This should remain enjoyable for several years. Unfortunately, in more “normal” years – not to mention in 2006 and 2009 – this variety forces the Rumpfs’ hands with high Oechsle before it tastes really ripe.
